Cat Thursday - I survived another year.

Welcome to the weekly meme that celebrates the wonders and sometime hilarity of cats! Join us by posting a favorite LOL cat pic you may have come across, famous cat art or even share with us pics of your own beloved cat(s). It's all for the love of cats! Enjoy! This fun meme is hosted by The True Book Addict. Go over to her site to join in the fun.

It's my birthday. Birthdays are important. They mean you have survived another year. When you have life threatening conditions happen more than once, you start to realise that. When you have friends and family members have illness or pass away, it puts things in perspective. Life is good. We are lucky to be alive. We don't have much time left. Let's party!

The Life of Pi Movie

The lovely people over at Nuffnang held a competition for tickets to an advanced screening of  Life of Pi from Twentieth Century Fox. We were lucky enough to win with our picture below with a little tall tale about how we had raised this little tiger and called him Richard Parker, but we heard he was lost at sea with a boy called Pi. Unfortunately, Mike couldn't make it, so I went with Jessi from Jessi in Wonderland. You can read her review here. Sincere apologies for not doing this review sooner, but as you can see I have had to have quite a big blogging break due to personal reasons.

This is a picture of Mike & Kate (me) in Thailand having our own little adventure with a tiger.

Unless you have been living under a rock, by now you would have heard of the Life of Pi. It has been nominated for 11 Academy awards. I agree wholeheartedly with these nominations and I'm sure we will be seeing them taking home more than a few of the awards come February.
This is the first movie I have seen in 3D since the days of the blue & red glasses, so that was a real treat for me. You can read what I thought of the book in my book reviews links in the sidebar, or by going to this link.
Apart from my previously discussed problems with the actual story line in the book (that island, grrr!) the film is amazing. It is visually stunning and has a wonderful score. I can't praise the film enough for the way you are immersed into the surroundings. It's a memorable experience that should not be missed. I don't think you can wait until this comes out on DVD, you need to experience it in the theatres. Off you go!

The Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Since the movie had already been made, I thought it was about time I read this book. I had put it aside for many years as one I wanted to read, but somehow I just never seemed to get around to it. I started reading it before I saw the movie, but I didn't finish it until after I had seen it. This is a kind of unusual situation for me, as I usually prefer to read the book before any screen adaptation.  However, the opportunity arose to view a special early screening and I took the opportunity. (I blog about this is the next post).

All Cats have Asperger Syndrome

All Cat's Have Asperger Syndrome is a picture book by Kathy Hoopmann. It's not just for kids, though. Parents, family, friends, cousins, classmates, anyone who is neurotypical and who knows someone on the Autism Spectrum, will learn a little something from this book. It's a great introduction to what it's like for kids (and their parents) who are on the "high functioning" end of the spectrum. I think it would be a good discussion starter for classrooms and even for families. Also, some people who suspect they might not be so neurotypical will have some eye-opening moments.

Salad Days December challenge.

December: The challenge.

The back story to this challenge is that this (2012) has been a really full on year for us. I was diagnosed with sleep apnoea and have had other health issues, Starchaser has also been struggling with health issues and the Butcher has to work long hours, he has gone back to truck driving to help pay all the bills and what not. I'm also at Uni again.

Jane and the Damned

I'm such a huge Jane Austen Fan but I have avoided the parodies and mash-ups so far, in fear I may be disappointed. I felt that Death Comes to Pemberley was beautifully handled and I admired the way the Austenesque universe was sustained in Pemberley and was really well handled.
