Five minutes to spare...

I have been finishing up an assignment - the last for the year.
We've also been quite busy socially.
I am madly working on craft piece - which I am a bit excited about and which I will post about towards the weekend.
But I have five minutes to spare.

True Confessions of a Potter Addict

Well, it's probably not a secret that I'm a huge Harry Potter Fan. It seems to be one of those things where you love it or can't understand what all the fuss is about. I have re-read the books more than any other novel. Yes,  even "Alice in Wonderland".
Anyway, the wait is over and the day is here, well tomorrow.
The beginning of the end.
Part one of "The Deathly Hallows".

Being a Green Reader

I love collecting old books. I keep old books that belonged to relatives and I never buy new if it is available second-hand. I also pass along books, share them, donate them, sell them and use the Library. All of these practices were, in my mind, a little contribution to greening the Earth.
I try the same practices when it comes to other consumer goods, clothes, and crafting materials. But sometimes we just have to buy new. This is because it is a newly written book, or a new invention or consumable materials.
This is where it becomes a more difficult road to traverse. Adding up food miles, buying locally made, looking for the phosphate-free, or biodegradable alternatives, choosing less packaging. It's a minefield and sometimes it's harder for me than simple recycling because I was raised by parents who composted & recycled as much as possible, long before it was fashionable.
Well, thanks to Eco Libris they have provided us with some ideas on that score. Through their site you can plant trees to balance out your books. You can learn about which publishers are using environmentally friendly techniques and they have also started the "Green Books Campaign" which is linked here.

Look at the Bloomin' roses

We were very late pruning the roses this year. So we are surprised by the amount of blooms. In this picture you can see there are so many flower buds on each stem.

A New Life Attitude

This has been a huge year for me.
My beautiful daughter was married this year. *

There was a lot to organise and I also did the flowers, which I think turned out pretty okay. More pictures here.

Bride's Bouquet

After more than 8 years of homeschooling, my youngest has finally finished and both my children have secured places in courses at Technical Colleges. So I am busy getting rid of all the accumulated learning materials, books etc.
